Item: Seal-top Spoon Hallmark: London 1618 by
William Lovejoy Dimensions: 170mm long, 45g weight
Comments: Excellent spoon in fine condition.
Completely unworn fig-shaped bowl with thick lip to rim. Contemporary
dot-pricked initials to seal terminal. Good example of the "crescent
enclosing a mullet" mark as described in "London Silver
Spoonmakers 1500-1697" by Tim Kent. Recent research (Piers Percival
in The Finial July 2004) makes a strong claim for this mark to belong to
William Lovejoy a known spoonmaker of the period.
