Item: Wine Label Description: Mountain; escutcheon Hallmark: London circa 1745 by Thomas Rush Dimensions: 53mm wide Comments: An early escutcheon form label with rare name. A clear example of the pre-1756 lion passant mark. Mountain is a sweet dessert wine from the hills around Malaga in Spain and was the predecessor of Sherry in the UK, being replaced by the latter c.1790.
