Item: Wine Label Description: Mountain; kidney shape with
feather-edge Hallmark: London circa 1775 by Hester Bateman Dimensions: 48 mm wide
Comments: A rare name wine label by a
desirable maker. Please note the engraved "O" was wrongly
positioned at the time of manufacture, subsequently filled in ,
re-positioned and re-engraved. At least it makes the label more
interesting!
Mountain is a sweet dessert wine from the hills around
Malaga in Spain and was the predecessor of Sherry in the UK, being
replaced by the latter c.1790. This label formed part of the "Joyce
Mountain "Mountain" wine label Collection".
