Item: Wine Label Description: Mountain; kidney shape with feather-edge Hallmark: London circa 1775 by Hester Bateman Dimensions: 48 mm wide Comments: A rare name wine label by a desirable maker. Please note the engraved "O" was wrongly positioned at the time of manufacture, subsequently filled in , re-positioned and re-engraved. At least it makes the label more interesting! Mountain is a sweet dessert wine from the hills around Malaga in Spain and was the predecessor of Sherry in the UK, being replaced by the latter c.1790.
