Item: Wine Label Description: Port; oblong with gadroon mount Hallmark: London c.1783 by Thomas Phipps & Edward Robinson Dimensions: 40mm wide Comments: Good quality, early label by this prolific partnership. Phipps & Robinson entered their first mark in 1783 and the absence of a duty mark (introduced in 1784) would suggest this year as the date of manufacture. TP/ER were located in Gutter Lane, which is the same street as the Binleys who were in production until 1789.
