Item: Teaspoon Description: Picture-back: 'I Love Liberty' Hallmark: London c.1765 by Thomas Evans Dimensions: 103mm long Comments: A Hanoverian pattern teaspoon with the famous "I love Liberty" picture back. The bird escaping the cage motif was inspired by the trials of the political activist John Wilkes in the late 1760's. The picture on this example is a little worn with the middle section of the motto being rubbed.
