Item: Sugar Tongs Description: Bright-cut
engraved with acorn bowls Hallmark: Circa 1786-90 by IC Dimensions: 140mm long,
36g weight
Comments: A very good quality and interesting
pair of tongs that as yet I have been unable to ascribe. At first glance
they appear to be London marks for the period 1786-90, however they are
unusual because they are marked in the bow and the lion passant is in a
straight sided rectangular shield. They could therefore be Exeter or
Newcastle - but no IC's appear to have worked there!
