Item: Sugar Nips Description: Cutter
type, with engraved decoration Hallmark: London circa 1740 by
John Gorham Dimensions: 128mm long; 60g weight
Comments: A fabulous pair of rare sugar nips
with contemporary engraved decoration to both sides. Clear hallmarks
including the 1740-1755 lion passant. According to Dr Shlosberg in his
book, this form of "cutter" tongs were popular in the early
1740's and were already out of favour by 1745. The engraving is especially
well executed and is a rare feature as only the best quality nips were so
decorated.
