Item: Pepper Caster Description: Bright-cut and pierced
urn-shape with blue glass liner Hallmark: London 1790/1 by Peter & Jonathan Bateman Dimensions: 76mm
tall
Comments: A superb example of the
Neo-classical taste by a particularly rare and desirable partnership. The
urn-shape on pedestal foot, the pierced and engraved decoration and the
trademark Bateman beading around the foot and the cover all add it up to
make this a perfect example of the style. Excellent condition throughout.
The partnership of the two sons of Hester Bateman was
short-lived due to the untimely death of Jonathan. The marks were only in
use between 7th December 1790 and 2nd May 1791.
