Item: Ewer Description: Pear-shape on pedestal foot Hallmark: London 1787 by Hester Bateman
Dimensions: 320mm high; 1350ml; 680g weight Comments: This
tall elegant ewer was made by one of the most sought after names in British
silver - Hester Bateman "The Queen of English Silversmiths". This
ewer portrays some of the trademark features of Hester Bateman design -
restrained decoration in the form of a reeded mount around the foot and top
rim and the urn-shaped finial. This type of ewer or pitcher can be used for
a variety of purposes - claret, coffee, hot water etc. It has a good
capacity of 1350ml (or 2 1/4 pints)
The jug is in fabulous condition and bears an engraved
letter "E" to the body. The hallmarks are clear with a
particularly clear example of the famous HB makers' mark to the underside of
the hinged cover.
