Antique Silver Spoons

Item: Caddy Spoon Description:  Engraved front and back Hallmark: London circa 1781-4 by Thomas Tookey Dimensions:  86mm length

Comments: A very early, rare and interesting caddy spoon by a specialist spoon maker most of whose work pre-dates the introduction of caddy spoons. I do not recall seeing another caddy spoon from the 18thC with engraved decoration to the reverse of both handle and bowl. The spoon is in excellent condition with a vacant cartouche (no erasures), unfortunately the date letter is worn (hence the low price). The spoon pre-dates the introduction of the duty mark in 1784. Small spoons were first stamped with a date letter in 1781 (f), therefore this spoon can be accurately dated to between 1781 and 1784.
