Item: Wine Label Description: Hock; rectangular with pierced and engraved borders Hallmark: Dublin
circa 1800 by John Teare Dimensions: 52mm wide
Comments: Rare Irish label in fine order, struck three times
to the reverse side with the maker's
mark.
With close scrutiny, the decoration on these labels can be
seen to be quite naive (e.g. small variations in the shape and size of the
hand-pieced semi-circles, non-parallel lines and incorrectly centred
words) giving a charming provincial feel to them or perhaps a
Guinness too many..
See Salter fig 925 for a label of identical form.
