Item: Wine Coasters (4) Description: Half
fluted with gadroon mounts Hallmark: Sheffield 1827,
made by John & Thomas Settle Dimensions: 5.9"
(150mm) diameter; 1.8" (44mm) tall.
Comments: Silver
wine coasters in good condition are difficult to find, Georgian examples
very difficult and pairs even harder. To find a set of four Georgian wine
coasters in pristine condition is an almost impossible task, so we are
pleased to be able to offer a fine set as these to fit the bill. They are
in wonderful condition, with no signs of the usual repairs (soldered seams
etc) and four crisp sets of hallmarks.
The
silver galleries are fitted to their original turned wooden bases (with
old and slightly tired baize to the undersides to prevent
scuffing to table tops) which highlight the silver discs to the
centres. These discs all bear the same beautifully engraved
crest. The concentric rings within the wood prevent vacuums
forming on the undersides of bottles and thus avoid embarrassing
spillages. The galleries are half fluted with gadroon rims in a
design that was fashionable throughout the Regency period.
A truly wonderful set of wine coasters that would superbly show off a
selection of fine wines at the dining table.
