Item: Sweetmeat Fork Description: Engraved Trefid with 'ears' Hallmark: London circa 1690 by ID over P (heart-shaped punch) Dimensions:  105 mm length

Comments: A beautiful dainty fork. It has an elaborate trefid terminal with vacant cartouches (no erasures) to both sides. The fork is in remarkably fine condition with crisp engraving and a clear maker's mark.

Provenance: The How of Edinburgh Sale on October 30th 2007.

How of Edinburgh were the leading experts in early spoons. They were retailing from the early 1930's onwards and produced the groundbreaking work "English & Scottish Silver Spoons and Pre-Elizabethan Hallmarks" in the 1950's.
