Item: Sweetmeat Fork Description: Trefid with 'ears'
Hallmark: London circa 1690 by TN crowned Dimensions: 103 mm length
Comments: An excellent sweetmeat fork with an
usual form of trefid terminal. As yet we have been unable to ascribe the
maker (potentially a bargain if it can be successfully attributed!).
Provenance: The How of Edinburgh Sale on October
30th 2007.
How of Edinburgh were the leading experts in early spoons.
They were retailing from the early 1930's onwards and produced the
groundbreaking work "English & Scottish Silver Spoons and
Pre-Elizabethan Hallmarks" in the 1950's.
