Item: Caddy Spoon Description: Bright-cut engraved with
shell bowl Hallmark: Birmingham 1797 by Joseph Taylor Dimensions: 71 mm length
Comments: A good example of this popular
Joseph Taylor design.
The duty mark for Birmingham made silver in the year
1797/98 (date letter Z) was changed three times within the twelve month
period. The standard duty mark was followed by the stamping of two duty
marks to denote the payment of the increased level (double duty) and then
finally the cusped duty mark which was a simpler method of denoting the
same. This spoon bears the latter of these three marks.
