Antique Silver Spoons

Item: Caddy Spoon Description: Fiddle pattern with fluted bowl Hallmark: Elgin circa 1820 by Robert MacGregor Dimensions: 109 mm length

Comments: A very rare Scottish Provincial caddy spoon. The spoon has clear marks for Robert McGregor (R.Mc.G), a "tree" mark and a "tree with baubles" mark, both of which are to be found on Elgin silver. G. P. Moss refers to and illustrates this set of marks in his book "Provincial Silversmiths of Moray & Their Marks" on page 31 and suggests that they may have been made in Elgin by McGregor circa 1820, which pre-dates the same silversmiths working period in Perth.

The spoon itself is an attractive example with a finely shaped fluted bowl with steep sides either side of the handle junction.
