Antique Silver

Item: Caddy Shovel Description: Gilt with embossed vine & grape shovel Hallmark: Birmingham 1813 by Samuel Pemberton Dimensions: 81mm long

Comments: A particularly fine example of a caddy shovel. The vine and grape embossed scoop is especially well detailed and the symmetrical edges of the shovel are in the form of scrolls with a central shell motif. The whole piece is gilded (gold-wash) with the same colour throughout (not the two shades caused by the difference of lighting in the photos). The hallmarks are good, although the lion passant is not especially well struck.
