90-piece Hester Bateman Pattern Canteen, Sheffield 1997-2005 by C J Vander We are pleased to be able to offer a nearly new (unused) extensive canteen in a highly popular design. This Georgian design cannot realistically be bought as original late 18th Century pieces and this canteen is as good as you will find. There are seven pieces per twelve place settings with the addition of six serving items. We are offering this flatware service at a fraction of the original recommended retail price. If you were to order this canteen today as new from a good retail outlet, the RRP would be £17,597!!! Hester Bateman Pattern This modern pattern is a faithful reproduction of the bright cut engraved designs made famous in the late 18th Century by the Bateman family and in particular by the matriarch of the company - Hester Bateman. The design has a narrow bead border around the front stem with an attractive engraved design to the centre. The vast majority of original pieces within this desirable pattern would be table spoons - it would be near impossible to find/build a canteen from Georgian pieces. The Maker C J Vander were the premier London-based silver flatware manufacturers of the second half of the 20th Century. The majority of their work was hand-wrought and they were the last major producer to offer this service. Unfortunately, they went in to liquidation early in the 21st Century and this canteen was amongst the last to be produced by them. The Service This extensive canteen is presented in an anti-tarnish flatware box. All the pieces are in fabulous mint condition and have not been engraved. Each piece has a good solid feel in the hand and have crisp engraved decoration. All items are fully hallmarked for London by C J Vander, with dates between from 1997 to 2005. There is a very good selection of eating implements and some useful serving items. The addition of salad forks is a bonus. Components and Measurements This 90-piece service consists of the following:
Total weight of weighable silver 4275 grams (137.5 tr. oz.) This figure excludes the twenty four knives. Condition Excellent. The canteen is in mint condition having never been used. There are no engraved initials. Presentation This canteen benefits from being presented in a Kenized box. The external fabric is burgundy in colour and the brown interior has anti-tarnish qualities. The cover can be rolled back when in use or zipped up and closed by way of press studs. Extra space is available at both ends (under the knives) for additional storage. If you prefer, the box can be exchanged for navy blue anti-tarnish cutlery rolls. As with all the canteens available from our web-site, we are happy to send a sample place setting for approval, on receipt of a fully refundable surety payment, prior to purchasing this canteen.
