58-piece Coburg Pattern Canteen, Sheffield 1990-2009 by C J Vander We are offering for sale an
excellent nearly new fifty-eight piece silver service
of
The Maker
The canteen is as new with all the spoons and forks being made by C J Vander who were the premier English specialists in hand-wrought silver flatware and cutlery of the latter half of the 20th Century. Vanders were based in London, but all these pieces bear Sheffield hallmarks between 1990 and 2009.. The Pattern
Coburg Pattern was designed by Paul Storr in circa 1810 for Rundell, Bridge and Rundell (the Crown Jewellers and silversmiths). Paul Storr was the most important English silversmith of the 19th Century. Coburg was the pattern of choice for the Prince Regent (later King George IV) and the service is still used by the Royal Family for major banquets. The detailing is superb and the oyster shell motif to the reverse of the bowls/tines is a fine feature. It deservedly has the reputation of being the King of English flatware patterns and is the ultimate in fine dining.
The make-up of the service gives great flexibility. The salad forks and dessert forks can be interchangeable and used for most starter courses. The surplus of table forks means that they can complement either of the other forks if required.
