King's Rococo Pattern 72-piece Canteen, London 1901-20 by Hunt & Roskell Ltd.

Hunt & Roskell were the continuation of the firm founded by Paul Storr in the early 19th Century, via Storr & Mortimer (in 1822), Mortimer & Hunt (in 1839) and Hunt & Roskill (in 1843). The company held the Royal Warrant for Queen Victoria and continued until circa 1965 as one of the most prestigious London retailers. Every item in this canteen is stamped with their mark.

King's Rococo Pattern is a very rare pattern the commission of which would have been reserved for the very wealthy. the stunning design of decoration for this pattern consists of a sumptuous mix of scrolls, swirls and flowers reminiscent of silver from the Rococo period (mid-18th Century). All items bears the initial "M" surmounted by a Baron's coronet. Each piece in the canteen is of the highest order in terms of quality (the table spoons and forks weigh in excess of 3 troy ounces each) and are testimony to it's aristocratic past.

The condition of the silver is near perfect and appears to have been rarely used. The knives retain their original Hunt & Roskell steel blades and although these are a little discoloured are still perfectly practicable. They could however be exchanged for stainless steel blades on request.
