Fiddle Pattern Canteen with engraved Stag crest,
We are offering a beautifully presented twelve place settings canteen in the most
popular 19th Century flatware pattern.
This is a mixed maker canteen with every piece bearing the same engraved crest (see below). The majority of the pieces are in same maker sets of six and consequently are well matched in terms of length and proportions. The maker's of this canteen include George Adams, Charles Boyton, William Smily, Christian & David Reid (of Newcastle) and James Beebe; they are all among the premier list silver flatware makers of the nineteenth Century. The majority of pieces date from the 1850's, although nine pieces are Georgian in date.. Components and Measurements This 48-piece service consists of the following:
12 off Table/soup Spoons; length: 8.8" (224mm); weight: 872 grams (28 tr. oz.);
12 off Table/dinner Forks; length: 8" (203mm); weight: 861grams (27.7 tr. oz.);
12 off Dessert Spoons; length: 7.1" (18mm); weight: 443grams (14.25 tr. oz.);
12 off Dessert/luncheon Forks; length: 6.8" (172mm); weight: 576grams (18.5 tr. oz.);
Total Weight: 2752 grams (88.5 troy ounces). The Crest Each piece bears the same engraved crest that is described thus: "a five point coronet thereon a stag trippant, the dexter foot resting on an escutcheon charged with saltire cross". Condition The canteen is in fine original condition throughout with a very good patina. Additional pieces We retain in stock a further selection of fiddle pattern items with the same crest, which could be purchased by any prospective buyer of the above, to augment the service by a further three place settings. A pair of complementing sauce ladles are also available. New silver handled knives or bone handled knives are available on request to complement this canteen. Price: SOLD Ref.
