Antique Silver Spoons

Dog Nose Pattern Canteen, London 1908 by Garrards

We are offering a hand forged Edwardian twelve place settings canteen made by the Garrards the Crown Jewellers in the highly popular Dog Nose pattern.

Dog Nose Pattern

This pattern was originally produced during a brief fifteen year period at the beginning of the 18thC more or less coinciding with the reign of Queen Anne (1702-14). The pattern was reproduced by London makers at the beginning of the 20th Century and the pieces in this canteen are a faithful hand-forged reproduction of the originals. The spoons have rattails to the reverse of their bowls and the fork are all three-pronged.

The Maker

Garrards are one of the most important names in English silver. They can trace their origins back to the silversmith to the King, George Wickes, in the early 18th Century and have retained a Royal connection ever since. Throughout their history they have been known as both high quality retailers and manufacturers. The spoons and forks within this canteen were entirely hand-forged and thus have both the feel and look of the finest quality that one could buy.

These items bear the hallmarks for London 1908 with the maker's mark of Sebastian Garrard (SG), although it must be noted that six forks are hallmarked London 1945 by CW Fletcher, but are an identical match to the others..
