All of the items below are from the Edwin Banfield Collection of card cases and are illustrated in his book "Visiting Cards and Cases". A copy of the book is available with any purchase for an additional £15.

Description: Windsor Castle Castle Top (figure 2.3 in the book)

Hallmark: Birmingham 1904 by Crisford & Norris

Dimensions: 99mm x 69mm

Comments: An excellent example of an early 20thC card case, with the words "Royal Windsor" embossed in the sky.

Description: Gentleman's plain case (figure 2.7 in the book)

Hallmark: Chester 1896 by Stokes & Ireland 

Dimensions: 79mm x 43mm

Comments: A very good late Victorian case by a quality silversmithing partnership. The name of the original owner is engraved to the front - "Ashley Froude".

Description: Cased side opening card case (figure 2.8 in the book)

Hallmark: Birmingham 1865 by Edward Smith

Dimensions: 100mm x 71mm

Comments: A beautifully engine turned card case within it's original presentation case. The interior is lined with purple watered silk (some stains). There are a few minor dings around the edges. The hallmarks are spread in "Birmingham box" style between the two halves.

Comments: A large and heavy card case with sprung hinge. The interior is lined with a plush brown leather and retains a pencil and holders for coins.

Hallmark: Chester 1904 by William Neale 

Dimensions: 66mm x 50mm

Comments: An interesting case with aperture for one's finger to push up a card. There is a beautifully engraved crest to one side with motto "Dieu Avec Nous" (God with us).

Description: Gentleman's case with slide dispenser (figure 2.20 in the book)

Hallmark: London 1913 by Henry Williamson Ltd.

Dimensions: 83mm x 42mm

Comments: This card case has a patented method of removing cards from the case, by sliding cards up one at a time using the finger grip and pushing open the cover. The spring mechanism however no longer works. An engraved cipher can be found under the grip. There are a few minor dings to the reverse side.

Hallmark: Birmingham 1919 by Henry Williamson Ltd.

Dimensions: 80mm x 43mm

Comments: An attractive engine turned case with a sprung hinge. The cards are held in place by a cloth band. The front is engraved "Vera" and in all probability is the name of the original owner.
