Item: Hunting Horn Description: Removable
mouthpiece Hallmark: London 1935 by Swaine & Adeney Ltd. Dimensions: 267mm
long; 141g weight
Comments: A top quality hunting horn by one of
the main manufacturers of horns. This particular piece is unusual in that
it has a reed fitted within the mouthpipe and the mouthpiece can be
detached in order to change the reeds. It blows both easily and
beautifully!
The outside of the bell is engraved with the following
inscription "E Lenton Stryng MFH, Derwent 1937". MFH is an
abbreviation for Master of Fox Hounds. Mr Stryng was the the MFH of the Derwent Foxhounds hunt
in
North Yorkshire between 1937 and 1939.
The bell is also stamped with the manufacturers name and
their proud accolades of exhibiting at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and
the International Exhibition of 1862. The company was first established in
1750 and continues today as Swaine Adeney Brigg celebrated maker of
equestrian and leather goods.
