Item: 6 x Dessert Spoons Description: Gilt Shell and
fleur-de-lys Hallmark: London
1818 by Daniel Hockley Dimensions: 178mm long; 441 g weight Comments: An
exceptionally rare set of dessert spoons in a fabulously opulent pattern.
These Regency spoons are gilt all over and very reminiscent of the French
taste. The stems appear at first glance to be fiddle pattern, but the
shoulders are in the form of a fleur-de-lys. Both sides of the stem are
superbly decorated with an array of shells amongst seaweed, vine &
grapes and lion's mask to the centre. The bowls retain their original
thick bowl tips. The rich gold colour is consistent throughout (despite
the differences that seem to show in the photos!) and the spoons appear to
have hardly ever been used in their 200 year life. The maker is not known
for his flatware production but instead is a highly regarded maker of
boxes and wine labels. A truly sensational set of spoons.
