Item: Spoon Description: Seal-top Hallmark: London 1596 by William Cawdell
Dimensions: 163mm long; 40 grams Comments: A
fine example of an Elizabethan period seal top spoon by one of the most
important specialist spoon makers of the period. Although not especially
hefty in weight, it has survived in remarkably good condition with a full
shaped bowl (some sharpness to the leading edge) and just some minor wear to
the cast seal terminal. Most importantly the hallmarks are still clearly
legible with the distinctive "C" enclosing "W" maker's
mark. The flat seal terminal is free from engraving with no sign of any
erasures. A good example of an Elizabethan spoon at a very competitive
price.
