Item: Tea or Condiment Spoon Description: Trefid Hallmark: London
1698 Dimensions: 98mm long; Comments: This
late 17th century spoon is a fine example of the earliest form of small
spoon to appear. It is still debated as to whether these spoons were
intended for the newly introduced tea or as condiment spoons. The bowl is
diagnostically wide and generous in size. The hallmarks are a little rubbed,
but the Britannia Standard marks are visible and the date letter just about
legible. There are some worn initials to the reverse terminal. The spoon has
a good solid feel in the hand and is in very good all round condition.
