Antique Silver

Item: Spoon Description: Seal-top  Hallmark: Taunton circa 1631 by Robert Wade Dimensions: 178mm; 43grams

Comments: A fine Charles I period seal top spoon. The spoon is gilt all over and is in fine all round condition with a lovely feel in the hand. The bowl retains it's full shape and the large seal is in good condition. The terminal is dot prick engraved with betrothal initials and date. The spoon is struck four times with clear examples of the maker's "RW" mark.

A very similar seal top spoon by Wade is illustrated in "Seventeenth Century Somerset Silver" by Tim Kent as spoon 14 dating from 1633.
