Item: Spoon Description: Seal-top Hallmark: London
1573 by " Campanula" mark Dimensions: 165mm; 45grams Comments: A
superb Elizabethan seal top spoon with large fig-shaped bowl and clear
hallmarks.
The condition is excellent with a full unworn bowl (some
minor bruises from table contact). There is a good round baluster seal to
the terminal with original "V" notch solder join (blow hole
visible). The hallmarks are first class with a very clear bowl mark and
three excellent stamps to the reverse stem. The maker's mark is described by
Kent in "London Silver Spoonmakers 1500-1697" as being a campanula
and is illustrated on page 8.
Finding Elizabethan period spoons of such quality and
condition and at sensible prices is becoming increasingly difficult - this
spoon is recommended as a top example of its' type.
