Item: Spoon Description: Seal-top; gilt Hallmark: Bristol
circa 1640 Dimensions: 179mm; 47 grams Comments: A
very rare 17th century spoon from Bristol with a good example of the Bristol
"BR" monogram town mark (see Appendix B1, page 170 of "West
Country Silver Spoons & Their Makers 1550-1750"). The reverse stem
bears a star or perhaps tree (?) mark. The spoon is gilt all over and is in
good condition with just a few minor bumps to the bowl. The seal typically
lacks detail for what was probably a well used casting mould.
