At long last, a book concentrating on one of the most common, inexpensive and yet appealing pieces of silver - the napkin ring. This beautifully presented hardback book is a catalogue of all the main napkin styles from a variety of countries and is lavishly illustrated from the Danish author's own extensive collection.
The book begins with an introduction, including the historical background relating to napkin rings. The next seven chapters are devoted to the evolution of the napkin ring and change in styles, with each chapter concentrating on a particular era/movement - First appearance/early designs, Victorian Revivalism, Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, English Arts & Crafts, Danish Skonvirke/Art Deco and Modern Artists.
Each chapter has sub-sections with a brief article on either a maker or a particular country's output with illustrated examples. Virtually every page has at least one large colour photograph showing in fine detail the form and decoration. The author was particularly keen to have the book published in colour and the beautiful final product justifies this decision. Underneath each photograph are the vital statistics appropriate to the illustrated napkin ring.
The book covers all the most attractive styles, but leaves out the more mundane mass produced designs of napkin ring. It is accurately written and makes very interesting and enjoyable reading and leaves you wanting more...
