Item: Beaker Description: Flared cylindrical with
chisel and engraved decoration and gilt interior Hallmark: London
1869 by Richard Sibley II Dimensions: 75mm diameter at top, 90mm high, 123 grams
Comments: This is a splendid Victorian silver
beaker with a particularly rare form of decoration. The pattern on the
exterior of the beaker has been gouged out with a chisel and then matt
engraved to give definition. It is not an easy procedure to achieve a good
result, but in this instance the impact is fantastic. To add an extra air
of opulence the interior is gilt with a matt finish. Further evidence of
the high quality is the presence of the "Thomas of New Bond St"
retailers mark to the underside. Excellent condition throughout.
