Item: Pair Wine Coasters Description: Arched
Flutes with gadroon mount and crested buttons Hallmark: Sheffield
1809 by Roberts, Mosley & Settle Dimensions: 5.7"
(145mm) diameter; 1.8" (46mm) tall
Comments: These are an excellent pair of Georgian
silver wine coasters. They have the typical turned wooden centres for the
period, with what appears to be the original baize, to prevent marking the
dining table when pushed (coasting) along the surface. Pairs of coasters are
ideal for presenting a bottle or decanter of both red and white
wine during dinner and will capture any drips. The centres of the
wood carry silver escutcheons bearing engraved crests and mottoes.
The galleries of the coasters are decorated with embossed flutes and
arches and have an applied gadroon mount to the top rims. The marks are a
little rubbed, but are mostly legible on one set. The hallmarks are a
little rubbed, but are mostly legible on one coaster.
