Item: 3-piece Tea Service Description: 'Victoria's Empire'
Hallmark: Sheffield 1886-89 by John Round Dimensions:
230mm long x 120 mm high; 1 pint volume (teapot); 650 g weight
Comments: A superb and extremely rare silver
tea set celebrating the empire of Queen Victoria. All three pieces are
superbly decorated with the national flowers and symbols of the Union;
English rose, Scottish thistle, the Irish shamrock and harp and Welsh
leeks in the form of scrolls. The spout is supported by a kangaroo for
Australia and a lion for Africa. The finial to the hinged cover is in the
form of the Union crown and the thumb piece of each handle is the form of
a thistle.
The quality and condition of this tea service is
outstanding, the decoration is extremely crisp throughout and the
interiors of the cream jug and sugar bowl are gilt. A superb set.
