Item: Fish Server Description: Trowel
with pierced blade and engraved handle Hallmark: Dublin circa
1771 by
LH
Dimensions: 340mm long; 123g weight
Comments: This magnificent Irish fish trowel
is a superb survivor and in excellent condition. The flat blade has been
wonderfully decorated with pierced and engraved seaweed designs, the
central motif being a stylised fish, all amongst a bright-cut engraved
border. The handle has a beautiful feel to it with a convex shape at the
terminal, feather edging and an Adam's style engraved cartouche to the terminal - vacant with no
erasures. The hallmarks to the blade are in first class condition and
according to Ticher, Delamer & O'Sullivan in "Hallmarks on Dublin
Silver 1730-1772" accurately date the piece to 1771. As yet, we have
been unable to identify the maker LH.
