Item: Table Spoon Description: Hanoverian pattern
Hallmark: Cork circa 1740 by George Hodder Dimensions: 216 mm long;
69g weight
Comments: A very rare Irish provincial table
spoon in great condition. Cork marked spoons are generally in Old English,
Celtic Point, Bright-cut or fiddle patterns. Examples from the earlier
Hanoverian pattern are very rare.
This spoon has a heavy feel in the hand and benefits from
having a very bold central ridge to the front terminal (a feature helping
to date this spoon to the earlier years of Hodder's working period -
1738-71) and contemporary to
manufacture engraved baptismal initials to the reverse terminal. The bowl
is full, but has very slight wear to the leading edge (really very minor).
The marks are good with some slight rubbing. A fine spoon!
