Antique Silver

Item:  Dessert Spoon Description: Hanoverian Hallmark: Dublin c. 1765 by John Laughton Dimensions: 153mm long, 26g weight

Comments: An attractive mid-18thC Irish spoon with a contemporary engraved crest of a hound to reverse terminal. This spoon portrays a clear set of bottom-struck hallmarks. The I.L maker's mark is struck twice and can be seen as figure 257 (page 169) in "Collecting Irish Silver" by Douglas Bennett. Bennett states that establishing the ownership of this mark is difficult as it could be either John Laughlin, John Lloyd (snr) or John Locker. Whoever made it - it's a nice spoon in good condition.
