Elizabethan Maidenhead Spoon, 1584

Details

This is a fine example of a scarce Elizabethan period Maidenhead spoon by one of the most important spoon makers of the period. This maidenhead spoon has a very good set of hallmarks including a good bowl mark and clear example of the mullet over pellet maker's mark which has been attributed to Patrick Brue by Piers Percival.

The spoon has a cast maidenhead finial with the original "v-motch" join still visible to both sides of the stem. The finial retains many of its original features although as typical with this type of spoon the facial features are rather indistinct. The fig-shaped bowl retains its’ original shape although the front of the bowl has some very minor wear and there is a tiny ding to the deep of the bowl. A great example of an Elizabethan maidenhead spoon!
