Item: Caddy Spoon Description: Important
bright-cut handle with tiny bowl Hallmark: London
1782 by Samuel Wintle Dimensions: 60mm long; bowl diameter of
22mm.
Comments: An important very small and early
caddy spoon. See "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Supplement" by
John Norie. This is a twin spoon to that shown on page 2 of the book. The
triangular bright-cut handle is the same design and, although not fluted,
the bowl has the same diameter of 1.1". Furthermore it provides
evidence to Norie's assertion that this ("the caddy spoon with the
smallest practical bowl") was made by Samuel Wintle. It has the same
"lightly struck" double marks "SW", but is
additionally marked with the date letter for 1782.
