Item: Table Spoon Description: Fiddle Pattern
Hallmark: Wick c. 1830 by John Sellar Dimensions: 234mm
long; 76 grams
Comments: An extremely rare table
spoon from one of the scarcest Scottish provincial centres. This spoon is in
excellent condition and bears the "IML" initials found on a series
of Wick table spoons, presumably from a set made by Sellar for a local
family - see page 178
“Highland Gold & Silversmiths” by Moss & Roe for mention of
these family initials and an illustration of the marks.
Wick
is the most northerly of all mainland Scottish provincial silver producing
centres. It is the main town of Caithness and is an important harbour town.
