Item: Egg Spoon Description: Oar Pattern Hallmark: Peterhead
c.1800 by George Angus Dimensions: 132mm long; 13.5 grams
Comments: An extremely scarce form of spoon in
Scotland, with even rarer marks for one of the most sought after of all
Scottish Provincial marks. The maker is very rare too! The marks are in
good legible condition and the bowl of the spoon retains it's original
gilding (some scratching within the bowl).
Provenance: This particular spoon recorded a selling price of £3937
(inc. buyer's premium) when it sold at auction in Edinburgh on 24th April
2001.
Peterhead is most famous as an important fishing port on the
North East coast of Scotland. Peterhead silver appears on the market just
once or twice per year.
