Item: Snuff Mull Description: Rams' horn with hinged
silver mounts Hallmark: Elgin circa
1830 by ACF Dimensions: 80mm long; 46mm diameter cover Comments: A
fantastic quality late Georgian snuff mull from a rare Scottish provincial
centre. The hinge is superb and involves
a revolving ball to which the cover is attached. The cover bears a later
engraved inscription and the condition throughout is excellent. The makers'
mark "ACF" is struck twice to the cover interior and has been
attributed by Richard Turner to an Elgin maker circa 1830 - see
"Directory of Scottish Provincial Silversmiths & Their Marks".
The Royal burgh of Elgin is Scotland's smallest city. It is
located some 5 miles inland from the Moray Firth in the county of Moray,
approximately half way between Inverness and Aberdeen.
