Antique Silver

Item: Straining Spoon Description: Old English pattern Hallmark: Edinburgh 1774 by Patrick Robertson Dimensions: 308mm long; 114g weight

Comments: An extremely rare example of a Scottish straining spoon of basting spoon proportions. This spoon has a pierced shroud over half of the bowl, plus two courses of holes within the bowl itself. This piece is entirely original and bears a crest with motto to the front terminal. The crest depicts an ostrich with key in its' mouth and the motto reads "Indure Furth" - endure forth.

The spoon would have been used for serving vegetables where the water or sauce needed to be strained away by turning the spoon to one side prior to serving. A first rate example of its' type.
