Seal-top Spoon, 1587

Details

This is a really fine example of an Elizabethan period silver seal top spoon. It display an excellent squat hexagonal seal that is typical for the period and bear no engravings to the flat plate. Other typical late 16th century features include the hexagonal stem and good fig-shaped bowl. The bowl benefits from retaining its full shape, has no evident wear to the tip and an exceptionally clear leopard's head stamp. The stem marks are crisp too and include the "C" encompassing a "W" mark of the master spoon maker William Cawdell. This is an excellent spoon that is in fine condition with a good all over patina.
