Item: Pair of Serving Tongs Description: Sprung
lifters; crested
Hallmark: London 1803 by William Eaton Dimensions: 277mm long; Comments: A
very unusual pair of serving tongs with cleverly made sprung arms. The
lower arm has nine tines and the upper is engraved with a crest and motto
"PRESS THROUGH". The thread handle is made by the specialist
haft maker (John Troby) and is entirely original to the piece. N.B. there
is wear to the raised neck of the handle adjacent to the hallmark (see
close-up photo) but otherwise the tongs are in fine condition.
