Item: Soup Ladle Description: Onslow pattern
with feather-edge and shoulders Hallmark: London 1768 by
Thomas Evans Dimensions: approx. 335mm long; grams weight
Comments: A fantastic quality soup ladle in
superb condition with Onslow terminal and bright-cut feather-edged
decoration. It also has an additionally rare feature, with
"shoulders" on the stem close to the bowl (as per the later
fiddle pattern). Onslow pattern was popular in the 1750-70's period and bright-cut
decoration was just becoming fashionable circa 1770, so this ladle has a
very early, interesting and attractive mix of the two. Condition is
excellent with none of the usual splits or repairs to the bowl, crisp
decoration and very clear hallmarks. A truly magnificent piece!
