Item: Pair of Cold Meat Servers Description: Fiddle
and Thread pattern Hallmark: London 1856 by George Adams Dimensions: 280mm
and 240mm length
Comments: These are a very rare pair of
serving knife and fork and in fact we are unsure of their actual purpose!
We suspect that they are multi-functional serving items, that would be
ideal for serving up cold meats. The loaded handles and the blades/tines
are identically hallmarked and these pieces have a substantial weight and
feeling of high quality. Excellent quality throughout.
The handles of both pieces bear an engraved crest for the
Sixth Dragoon Guards ("The Carabiniers") with the word
"Carabineers" in a crowned garter around "VI" over
"DG". The Sixth Dragoon Guards were a cavalry regiment of
the British Army, active from 1685 to 1922. They fought with distinction
at a number of battles and wars. At the time of the manufacture of this
pair of servers, they had just concluded their efforts in the Crimean War
(1853-56).
