Item: Snuff Box Description: Rectangle; scroll-engraved with Maritime-related inscription Hallmark: Birmingham 1843 by Nathaniel Mills Dimensions: 85mm x 58mm; 127g weight 

Comments: An excellent table snuff box by the master box maker - Nathaniel Mills. This box is of the highest quality with a lovely scroll engraved design to all sides and a gilt interior. 

There is an interesting engraved presentation inscription to the front which reads: "Presented by the Glasgow Association of Underwriters to Lieut(enant) Alexander Boytter R.N. in command of HM Steam Packet Pike Portpatrick as an acknowledgement of his services at the wreck of the Barque Sovereign of Glasgow 10th July 1847". A barque is a sailing ship with three or more masts.
