Antique Silver

Item:  Table Spoon Description: Hanoverian double-drop Hallmark: London 1733 by John Gorham Dimensions: 197mm long, 51g weight

Comments: A fine George II period spoon with the diagnostic double drop heel of the period  to the reverse of the bowl (the next stage of development of the Hanoverian Pattern following the rattail). A contemporary to manufacture "betrothal triangle" is engraved in Roman Block style to the reverse of the terminal ("T" being the surname and "J" & "E" being the first letters of the first names). The hallmarks are very good, although the maker's mark is slightly off-struck.
