Item: Sugar Nips Description: Hallmark: London circa
1740 by RM Dimensions: 120mm long;
32.5g weight
Comments: A very good pair of George II period
sugar nips with contemporary engraved initials "FF" to one side.
Clear hallmarks to both rings include the 1740-1755 lion passant.
According to Dr Shlosberg in his book, this form of "cutter"
tongs were popular in the early 1740's and were already out of favour by
1745. Condition is very good although there is some pitting to the hinge
area on the opposite side to the engraved initials.
